2018 USA ADVENTURE 09-07

We had a nice breakfast of scrambled eggs, proschuto, tomato and advocato.  With beautiful weather in our sites we headed off.
We said goodbye to South Dakota. I can say it won't be the last time we visit this amazing state.
Our journey continues North. We spent most of the day riding through the bucolic farmland of Minnesota. A whole different kind of wonderful from the South Dakota landscape.
Camping tonight and then pushing off for more points.

Map of the Day

We  did about a 400 mile  day and ended up at the "Sundown Campground".  It was a private campground but quite nice.  Again we arrive late and just got the tent up before dark.  Showers and a laundry were available so we utilized both.  Nice to hit the sack after a shower and all our clothing clean and fresh.....AHHHHH.......ZZZZZZZZZZZzz

2018 USA ADVENTURE 09-06

Tonight we are camping on edge of the Missouri River.  Don't have a lot of facilities for uploading etc.  We will edit this post at the next opportunity.  We left the Black Hills behind and headed to the Missouri River where we are camped.  The Badlands were amazing to see.  Colorful rock outcroppings abounded. It was some great motorcycle riding country.  Not too hot either.

Our Camp Site at Snake Creek Park

We stopped at a South Dakota campground call Snake Creed located on the Missouri River. The campsite was beautiful right on the river.  We arrived at about 7:30 which only left us about 30 minutes to set up camp for the night.  We got it done and had a good nights sleep.

2018 USA ADVENTURE 09-05

SEPTEMBER 5 -THE BLACK HILLS & MOUNT RUSHMORE

Map of the Day

We've never seen the black hills and so today we took a ride through some of the most amazing landscape I've ever laid eyes on. Every turn was more spectacular and ever vista more breathtaking than the one before. If you haven't visited this amazing place, put it on the list.

We were in the neighborhood, so we dropped in on a few Presidents.

After that we road the "Needles Highway".  The rock formations were over the top.  Below is a video of the "Needles" part of the highway.

2018 USA ADVENTURE 09-04

September 4, 2018 - Greybull to Deadwood, SD

This morning we left our little eclectic Sage Motel headed for Deadwood in Black Hills National Forest.  The day was not the warmest but kind of like riding at home.  First we crossed the Big Horn National Forest on US Highway 16.  The pass was right around 9,500 feet high and very scenic.

Map of the Day

We started the day riding a amazing pass through the Big Horn the spent about 120 miles on I-90 incidentally at 90 MPH all the way.  The last leg of the day was heading south along the western edge of the Black Hills the east to Deadwood.  We had planned on camping but the weather said, "Not a good idea!" and we complied.  Found a real deal at a Motel where we will stay for two nights before moving on to the Badlands.  Check out the pictures of the day as well as a video of Wendy heading up the pass in the Big Horn National Forest.

2018 USA ADVENTURE 09-03

 September 3, 2018 – Greybull, WY

Trip Map

This morning’s ride took us through Yellowstone. We’ve both been there before but it’s still such a beautiful place to ride. We saw a few critters and then we were off to Wyoming.

Our next big stop is in the Black Hills, but we needed to overnight in Greybull, WY before we reach the Black Hills tomorrow.

We rode this amazing scenic route from Yellowstone down to Greybull

and we were having so much fun, we kind of forgot to watch the gas tanks. Our bikes are pretty closely matched, but mine’s got just a bit less distance than Rudy’s. I haven’t run this bike out of gas yet, but I came pretty dang close to doing it today. When I rolled to the pump there were 0 miles left until empty. Doged that bullet.

We are staying at the sweetest little motel right on the main drag of Greybull. It was laundry day for us and I’m afraid we brought a touch of the hillbilly to our stay tonight.

September 2, 2018 – Yellowstone (ish), MT

Trip Map

Our goal was to beat feet and make it to Yellowstone today. Close, but no cigars. You know how things sound when you are planning them, oh so doable. But then you do them and they sound completely different. Our plan was to high tail it Vermont. Long riding days, maximum mileage, just get there and then the fun can begin. Day 1 of this riding plan and we are now done with that riding plan.  Mr. Fyles was still a happy follower, but Ms. Colgan mutinied. Plans have been revised accordingly.

September 1, 2018 – The Journey begins.

Trip Map

Our bags were packed, the machines were ready and so were we.

First stop: Spokane, WA to visit some dear friends Patti & Jerry. Jerry pulled out all the stops and grilled us a fabulous dinner to send us off in style. We had such a nice visit, it was the perfect way to  settle into the rhythm of the road.
